ILA Records – June 16th

Going by the moniker of Yoke Lore, Brooklyn singer-songwriter Adrian Galvin has managed to impress with atmospheric beats and plush vocals on his latest EP Goodpain.

Clocking in at just under five minutes, the EP kicks into gear with the title-track ‘Goodpain’, featuring an enticing electro beat with Galvin’s wistful vocals laced over the top. It’s a tune filled with desire and doubt that you’ll fall in love with and have on repeat for weeks.

The utterly bewitching ‘Only You’ follows with striking lyricism and a memorable rhythm. An accomplished effort, the instrumentation is superb from start to finish and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression. ‘Level Tools’ adopts a slower pace and has a distinctive nostalgic feel to it. It’s the sound of Galvin yearning for simpler times whilst still appearing extremely focused on the future. The standout moments of many releases tend to be those that are softer and sweeter in their approach and ‘Level Tools’ certainly fits that category. It’s the crowning glory of Galvin’s second EP.

The remaining tracks, ‘World Wings’ and ‘Beige’, are extremely moving pieces of work and prove the artist has an ear for an infectious melody. Goodpain is an EP that sees Galvin at his best, a consistent wave of euphoria that will evoke a full spectrum of emotions from those who listen.
