Wovoka Gentle // In Short

This year saw Wovoka Gentle turn heads with their new EP Red, the London based trio lit up Chat’s Palace and on January 28th they’ll enchant audiences at Omeara. Their compelling sound twists between genre’s, never settling in one place and always tinged with an irresistible darkness. Ahead of the new year’s show we catch up with the band to get to know them a little more intimately.

If I had to describe our music in 3 words, I’d use…
Trying our best.

My favourite film ever is…
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Jose Gonzalez – I played mandolin with him last month in the Bahamas.

The best venue I’ve played so far is…
The Quarry Stage at In the Woods Festival which was this beautiful and secluded clearing in the middle of a forest- it felt like another world with people climbing trees to get a better view of us.

The song I hate the most is…
Little Drummer Boy by Justin Bieber and Busta Rhymes – it’s just so wrong and yet I couldn’t stop listening to it this Christmas. I hate that about myself.

The Worst Job I’ve ever had is…
Cleaning the house of a 90 year old hoarder. He had some amazing stories but his house was so hot and full of towering piles of dusty broken old things.

If I was in a tribute band it would be a….
Indigo Girls tribute band! Schmindigo Shmirls.

My Favourite word is….
Multidimensional (I stole that from Gareth Jones our producer).

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be….
Flyingflyingflyingflyingflyingflying

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Royal Festival Hall – I’ve wanted to headline there for as long as I can remember.

I think you should listen to…
Oliver Wilde.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Stevie Ray Vaughan who died in the year of my birth. Videos of him playing live give me goosebumps.

Wovoka Gentle play Omeara for the X-Posure all dayer alongside Spring King, Scarlet Rascal, Dead Pretties and more.
