Wampire – Bazaar // Album Review

wampire_bazaarPolyvinyl – out now

Wampire come from Portland, Oregon, play Ariel Pink-like garage rock and are considerably less shit than their name implies. That was the premise behind their debut album, last year’s Curiosity, and not much has changed since then. With Bazaar, that element of psychedelia-tinged surprise is gone, meaning its songs can’t just get by on goofball charm. This turn of fate is something ‘Too Stoned’, ‘Wizard Staff’ and ‘Millennials’ blithely ignore, like the horror movie character whose response to any onscreen atrocity is simply: “duuuuuuude”. In fairness to Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps, they’ve never claimed to be anything more than two bros larking around with impressive finesse. When you put it like that, their second record will do just fine.
