Visions is five!
The daring one-day Hackney festival prepares to celebrate its fifth anniversary by announcing its first wave of big names. And this year’s line-up will include Liars, Sophie, Jenny Hval, Blanck Mass, The Men, Goat Girl, Frankie Cosmos, Shame, Zebra Katz, Noga Erez, Helado Negro, Ider and Benny Mails.
As always it’s not just about the tunes for the August 5th festival. Because there is plenty more on offer with Visions packing in the crowds for its dog show, record and zine fair, screen-printing classes, street food, craft beer market and karaoke.
If you want to etch the Visions experience onto your body for posterity, artists from Haggerston’s finest tattoo shop Old Habits will be on hand to mark your flesh.
The sun-drenched all-dayer will spread out to five venues in London Fields, including Oval Space, Mangle, London Fields Brewhouse, Space Studios and Netil House.
This year’s headliner will be the sprawling psychedelic pioneers Liars. It will be one of the band’s first UK shows since their 2014 album, Mess. They’ll be joined by electronic producer Sophie and Norwegian producer and singer Jenny Hval. Her Sacred Bone’s labelmate Blanck Mass will return to the festival, while Latin American musician Helado Negro will come armed with tunes from his fifth studio album, Private Energy.
A handful of talented American acts also join the bill, including rapper Zebra Katz, Brooklyn-based punk band The Men and quirky indie outfit Frankie Cosmos.
Closer to home, South London will represent with Shame, Rough Trade-signed newcomers Goat Girl and fast-rising MC Benny Mails all signed up. While R&B-meets-folktronic duo Ider and Tel Aviv-based artist Noga Erez also join the bill.
