Torn Hawk – Let’s Cry And Do Pushups At The Same Time // Album Review

tornhawkMexican Summer – October 20th

You’re unlikely to find a title for an album more indicative of someone’s artistic mindset than Luke Wyatt’s new effort as Torn Hawk. Don’t be hindered by its seeming hilarity, though – what Wyatt has committed to record is by far his most accessible and emotion-laden effort to date and one that scrapes through the barriers of his ambient infamy. Tracks like ‘I’m Flexible’ and ‘Lessons From The Edge’ glide with a new romance, echoing the melodic sensibilities of DNTEL or Baths at their instrumental best but remain grounded with Wyatt’s esoteric bearing. It may seem a challenging or off-putting record at first but delving deeper into its meaning you find a sincerity that no attempt at an ironic title could throw off.
