Tigercub // In Short

tiger-cub

In almost three years of London in Stereo running the In Short feature, we’ve had some fantastic responses to our questions, but I’m sorry, every one else is going to have to move over, because no one is going to top the lad-culture Weezer tribute band called Geezer.

Unfortunately, Geezer exists only as a hypothetical right now; in the meantime, Tigercub do a pretty good job of filling the void with what this writer might eloquently describe as being ‘the sound of a group you’d go and see at a Toilet Circuit venue in the early noughties after catching them on MTV2, with just enough nineties Seattle to be interesting and not too much to be derivative’. In, like, a nice way.

They’re playing at the Barfly on November 25th and yeah, we know, we always say you should definitely go check out the band we’re writing about – but this time we’ve made it even easier for you and are literally giving away tickets as a prize for a competition which you can enter below. Don’t say we never give you free shit.

If I had to describe our music in 3 words, I’d use…
Jamie: Bipolar Alt Jonathon
James: Buttery Biscuit Bass
Jimi: Definitely not Jazz.

My favourite film ever is…
Jamie: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
James: Independence Day
Jimi: Rescuers Down Under

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Jamie: Julian from Trailer park boys
James: Jimi Wheelwright, genuinely. You can’t take him anywhere for being stopped in the street because someone knows him or his mate and vice versa. Literally in every city we’ve ever been.
Jimi: Ben from Royal Blood

The best venue I’ve played so far is…
Jamie: Tivoli – Utrecht
James: The Green Door Store
Jimi: Yep, Tivoli

The song I hate the most is…
Jamie: Revolution no.9
James: By Nickelback
Jimi: The Andorran national anthem

The worst job I’ve ever had is…
Jamie: Runner at a billboard factory
James: I temped as a kitchen porter on a golf course once, that sucked pretty badly.
Jimi: Selling towels that dogs can wear on a market stall. Dog dressing gowns.

If I was in a tribute band it would be a…
Jamie: ABBA tribute
James: Weezer, but all the lyrics would be about lad culture. It’d be called Geezer
Jimi: A King’s X tribute band called ‘Kings Xtra’

My favourite word is…
Jamie: Anthropomorphize
James: Safelike
Jimi: Sizzle

If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
Jamie: The power to be cool
James: The ability to email as good as Jimi
Jimi: China

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Jamie: Inside of myself
James: In the final room of the ‘Facility’ level from ‘Goldeneye’ on the N64, I bet it has a great acoustic.
Jimi: Ja Ja’s palace supporting Max Reebo.

I think you should listen to…
Jamie: Autolux
James: Wand
Jimi: Try Segall (Ty Segall not Steven)

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Jamie: Bob Dylan circa ’63
James: King Crimson (circa 1974)
Jimi: Hoff on Berlin Wall 89′
