In case you missed it, The Wytches are back. All Your Happy Life, the recently released follow up to their 2014 debut album, offers the same sludgy riffs and distorted haze that they’ve become known for, but adds lighter and melodic elements to their sound.
As they’re wrapping up their UK headline tour at Electric Ballroom tomorrow night, bassist Dan stepped forward to compile us a short, sweet playlist to help us through the winter months ahead.
AFI – Love Like Winter
“For an AFI song it’s fairly upbeat and a good listen when you need to be perked up a bit. This was one of my favourites from the DECEMBERUNDERGROUND album.”
Leonard Cohen – You Want it Darker
“His new record is amazing and full of depth. This song is the opener and is, like it says, very dark. It feels very desolate and cold, especially the imagery in the lyrics.”
Danny Elfman – Ice Dance
“This song from Edward Scissorhands gets me everytime I hear it. It’s such a sad piece.”
The Cure – Cold
“The drum sound on this song amaze me. So big and baggy sounding. It’s an incredible song though and dig the synth bass too.”
Alkaline Trio – Mr Chainsaw
“From Here to Infirmary was the album they released when they did their first UK tour. I had a ticket and was so excited. It was winter at the time and I had this on repeat in the days leading up to the show. Always brings back good memories.”
— The Wytches play Electric Ballroom on 11th November (tomorrow!). Tickets here.
