The Windmill in Brixton is something of an iconic venue, renowned for its unwavering dedication to and support of independent and upcoming talent with likes of Goat Girl, black midi, Kate Tempest and Metronomy having graced their stage over the years. Whilst the venue is closed, Tim Perry, who’s responsible for the venue’s ever-impressive bookings, has made us a playlist filled with lots of amazing music from artists who have played, or were due to play, at The Windmill.
Having been putting on shows for the past two decades, The Windmill, like many venues right now, faces closure in the face of current circumstances. They’re part of the nationwide initiative to save local venues headed up by the Music Venue Trust and you can support The Windmill’s Crowdfunder here. Last week they also released an excellent compilation featuring a wealth of live recordings from acts that have played at the venue including Shame, Fontaines D.C., Kate Tempest, PVA and more. Proceeds from the release will be donated to the venue and to local charity Brixton Soup Kitchen. Get your copy of the comp here and reminisce about times when we could go to gigs.
“I miss the venue and the people that play there. Here’s a selection of the latest releases from artists who’ve played or were due to play the Windmill. Reflecting the times we are in it’s a somewhat capricious list, but it does contain disco interludes because in these times everyone deserves a bit of disco.”
