On their latest album Debt Begins at 30 The Gotobeds enlist a stellar array of guests across the tracks, including members of Downtown Boys, Pavement and Protomartyr. Currently on their first-ever European tour, we caught up with guitarist and singer Eli Kasan to find out his fave tour food, dream gig location and more.

Their third full-length release, Debt Begins at 30 sees the Pittsburgh band continue in the vein of crafting immediate, exuberant and dynamic rock and roll. They’re a band who exude a true enjoyment in what they do, tangible in their music, and for this record the pals they’ve brought along for the ride, with features on each track, serves to further enrich their sound.

Ahead of playing The Islington tonight, get to know The Gotobeds In Short…

Three words to describe our/my music…

Worships Swell Maps

Last photo on your phone…

Screenshot of a conversation between me & Paul from The Oh Sees about booking his friends band (the excellent POW!)

Favourite instagram account…

sceneinbetween – best indie style, with tons of cool ephemera from the 60’s – 90’s

The best venue I’ve played…

Gooski’s, pgh pa USA. Shittiest dive bar, illegal times

Earliest song you remember…

What’s that track from Karate Kid? (googles) Glory of Love – Peter Cetera. I remember playing this 45 over and over on my older sisters Care Bears record player and jumping on her bed.

The worst job I’ve ever had…

End of my 5 year tenure as a graphic designer at American Eagle. Got threatened when I went on tour – quit with nowhere to go.

Favourite food on tour…

Any weird vegan bullshit I can find!

My Favourite word…

Litany. Sounds lovely and is easy to work into normal conversation.

Things that cheer me up…

Walking my rescue dog around the block

Hugs from my step-daughter

Playing guitar

Alcohol (usually)

Getting new records

My lovely partner

The bull getting the matador

Schadenfreude against Republicans

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…

I’ve had two answers to this for awhile – Red Rocks in Colorado, despite its size it would be funny as shit to play there to 13 people. Second one is coming true – Vera in Groningen! Dream big lads and lasses (and non-binary folks). You too can have yr dreams come true if you max out yr credit card to tour and piss of your job and partner!

I think you should listen to…

Maxine Funke. Timeless beauty.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…

The Fall, slated to open for them before MES got ill. Or CAN, would love to be tripping in a German castle to “Waiting For The Streetcar” Or Felt. God, a litany of bands if keep going….

The Gotobeds play the Islington tonight, tickets on Dice.

Debt Begins at 30 is out on SubPop now.
