You don’t need to gaze up into the night sky to find The Big Moon, because right here in London town resides the young four-piece band of Juliette, Soph, Celia, and Fern.
Fresh from touring with Yak, their debut single Sucker is a ferocious introduction to this hugely exciting new band, full of sugary hooks and edgy choruses which recall Supergrass with a hell of a lot more distortion. Produced by the band themselves and released independently last month, the band is heading to Hackney to ply their trade at the equally exciting Visions festival.
And if you want an idea of how the quartet will fill the stage on August 8, we caught up with the foursome at Corsica studios last month and snapped their set. We then had the chance to ask the ladies some of the tough questions about working in a Morrison’s cafe, being in the presence of McFly and fist-bumping with Chuck D:
If I had to describe my music in 3 words, I’d use…
F: Pow, oomph, crash
J: Chord, dischord, chord
My favourite film ever is…
F: Notting Hill
C: High Society
The most famous person I’ve met is…
F: I’ve been in the presence of Jon Snow, bastard son of Eddard Stark, Warden of the North. Didn’t meet him, though.
C: People I’ve met who’ve made me totally lose my cool are Christian Marclay and Lydia Yi, and Stephen McRobbie and Katrina Mitchell. The most FAMOUS person I’ve met is probably Danny from McFly.
J: Chuck D came up and fist-bumped me… and then he told me I was a good drummer
The song I hate the most is…
F: Your mother’s got a penis – Goldie Looking’ Chain
C: Zephyr Song – Red Hot Chilli Peppers
S: I love Blondie but the end of the tide is high where she says ‘high’ like a cowboy always really, really annoys me.
The worst job I’ve ever had is…
F: Dishwasher in Morrison’s supermarket cafe
J: I spent two years drying up spilled drinks and vomit on my hands and knees on the dancefloor of a club full of hen parties while everyone danced around me. Looking back on that… WHAT THE FUCK WAS I DOING?
C: Handing out flyers for a Renault car dealership in The Glades shopping centre in Bromley.
If I was in a tribute band it would be…
C: Dion and The Belmonts
J: Bjorn Again
F: yes, Bjorn again
S: Well if everyone else was gunna be in it then Bjorn Again sounds fun. If not maybe, The Who.
My favourite word is…
F: Tambien – It’s Spanish for ‘also’.
C: Hey, my favourite Spanish word is ‘el ayuntamiento’! It means town hall and it’s SO fun to say. My favourite English words are sincerity and copacetic.
If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
J: I need to teleport
S: I’d like to be able to Apparate like in Harry Potter. So teleporting without the time bit. Although I’d have to limit myself to a few passes a week otherwise I’d get really lazy
If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
F: Red Rocks Amphitheatre
J: in miniature inside a fibre optic cable with the internet whooshing around me
I think you should listen to…
F: Antony & The Johnsons – Thank You For Your Love
J: Iyongwe by John Wizards
S: Forth Wanderers
If I could see anyone play live it would be…
F: The Who – when Keith Moon and John Entwistle were still alive.
S: Hendrix too, and Amy Winehouse. I’d really love to see Portishead, which could actually happen!
J: LCD Soundsystem
