Partisan Records signings Tender are made up of two North London friends, Dan Cobb and James Cullen, who make a wonderfully sleek, yet dark, brand of R&B-influenced electro.

Listen to ‘Outside’ below:

Ahead of their live debut at Oslo in Hackney on 3rd of March, we got to know the band a little better.

If I had to describe our music in 3 words, I’d use…
Dan: Opposite to Slipknot
James: Late Night Vibezzz

My favourite film ever is…
Dan: I Love You, Man
James: There Will Be Blood

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Dan: Father John Misty at a small venue in Brighton. I was ‘playing it cool’ so didn’t talk to him, but our friend Ian took a photo of him sat in a mobility scooter, so…
James: Daniel Day Lewis, so basically Abraham Lincoln, on three separate occasions when I worked in a Menswear shop in Notting Hill.

The best venue I’ve played so far is…
Dan: Le Botanique in Brussels. We played there with our old band. It’s a really interesting round room, but you walk through green houses with fish ponds when you load the equipment in.
James: Can’t remember the name, but it was a man-made beach with a swimming pool floating in the middle of the river in Berlin and we randomly bumped into Wolf Alice in the swimming pool earlier in the day. Played beach football with some locals after the show. England v Germany.

The song I hate the most is…
Dan: Take That – Rule The World. It’s a terrible, disingenuous song that usually accompanies Saturday night TV montages like when X-Factor contestants are celebrating getting through to the live rounds or a look back at Great Britain’s sporting achievements on Sports Personality of the Year.
James: Tinie Tempah – Written in the Stars. It’s been the sky sports theme tune for far too long and its so annoying.

The worst job I’ve ever had is…
Dan: Sandwich Artist at Subway. Next…
James: Cashier at a Bank. A lot of people get very angry at you because they have no money.

If I was in a tribute band it would be a….
Dan: It would be The Beatles, but played in the style of pop-punk.
James: Brand New, exclusively playing the albums Devil and God and Daisy.

My favourite word is….
Dan: Pathetic. It’s just a classic.
James: It’s a swear word beginning with F. Use it an awful lot.

If I had a super power I’d want it to be….
Dan: To be able to talk to and understand animals.
James: Flying, surely.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Dan: The Royal Albert Hall. It’s such a great room. I went to see Jurassic Park Live with an orchestra there in December and I was in absolute awe the whole way through.
James: With Dan on this one. Got to be the Royal Albert Hall. I’d take a Madison Square Gardens show though any day.

I think you should listen to…
Dan: The Hour – ‘No One’s Going To Heaven’. That’s got to be the most underrated track I’ve ever heard. It’s incredible. Also honourable mentions to Leisure, Her, XYLO.
James: The Ornament Birds.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Dan: I’d love to see The National live.
James: Bon Iver. Had tickets, cancelled the show. Heartbreak.

Tender play Oslo on 3rd March.
