Let’s all give Sophie Allison a big London welcome when she arrives at VISIONS festival next month.

It’s the first time the 19-year-old university student and Nashville native has been to the UK and she arrives just in time to unveil her debut mini album on Fat Possum, called Collection. If you’ve followed her self-recorded career on Bandcamp you’ll need no introduction to the quiet and catchy sounds of Sophie’s endearing guitar pop.

But if you’re as new to Soccer Mommy as she is to curry sauce, let her bend your ear with Collection’s reworked versions of her best Bandcamp releases, as well as a few new songs – all written, mixed and produced in true DIY spirit by Sophie herself. “You can’t say indie rock is dead,” Sophie says. “It’s just being taken over by women.”

Indeed. Expect the streets of London Fields to ring out with her tales of toxic relationships, infatuations, and all the experiences of being a teenage girl. They’re about freedom and joy, as much as they are about broken hearts.

To find out more about Sophie, we asked her a few burning questions ahead of her VISIONS gig. And bloody hell, the red stuff features quite a bit. But we’re not talking about that curry sauce. Read it and weep.

Three words to describe my music…
Warm, breezy, self-conscious

Favourite ever film…
Howl’s Moving Castle

The most famous person I’ve met…
Taylor Swift

The best venue I’ve played…
I would say the nicest is LPR in Manhattan. But the most fun and comfortable would be Drk Mttr in Nashville, Tennessee.

The song I can’t listen to…
That new Ed sheehan song ‘Shape of You’

The worst job I’ve ever had…
I haven’t really had a terrible job! Probably the most stressful was working at an ice cream shop in Nashville.

My favourite meal to cook…
I’m not a very good cook, but one of the few things I would make at school was sautéed veggies with rice and that was always good.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
I could see Taylor Swift for sure, probably because I’ve almost done a Taylor Swift cover set. I could also see Liz Phair.

My Favourite word…
Maybe ‘blood’. It’s a basic word but I like the sound of it and the deep red colour it brings to mind when I say it.

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be…
I think turning back time would be cool. That or flying.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
I think it would be cool to play a show in Switzerland. Not necessarily a specific venue but it would just be a nice place to get to visit.

I think you should listen to…
The new Anna Altman album Freightliner – it’s one of my favourites this year!

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
My Bloody Valentine. I think that would be a really cool experience.
