Opening with a sultry blend of dreamy brass melodies, hushed vocals, and dusky beats Actors, Slow Hollows’ latest offering, showcases a distinct evolution from the band’s beginnings on their debut Atelophobia. With their new record out now, Austin Anderson answers some quickfire questions.

Featuring contributions from the likes of Tyler, The Creator, Ryan Beatty, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and more the third record from Slow Hollows sees the four-piece channel a tangible sense of freedom across the tracks as they further develop their sound, exploring a richer sonic palette. It feels at once tender and self-assured, intimate and expansive.

Reflecting on making the album Anderson expresses “My biggest fear is being misunderstood and misrepresented-but now I’m okay with taking risks outside of the cookie-cutter things I feel I need to follow […] I used to be in my own way, too scared to open up and bitter about everything. But Tyler told me, ‘You have the resources at your disposal to do something more, and if you don’t get out of your own way you’re going to regret it.’ That opened my eyes and made me realize that not only do I not know everything, but I don’t need to know everything. There’s no bounds I’m trying to exist in.” And this is creative realisation and liberation ostensibly shines throughout Actors which might just be their best release yet.
