With his new single out now, we caught up with London-based pop artist Show Boy to talk Tommy Cash, Animal Crossing, and the enduring poignancy of Milan Kundera’s best-known novel.

Following on from his debut EP Surreal, released last year, ‘Turn It On’ is the first single taken from Show Boy’s upcoming new release Ishtar Lion. Further honing his resplendent, 80s-imbued electro-pop, ‘Turn It On’ sees Show Boy craft buoyant and infectious grooves alongside effervescent melodies and punchy, soaring vocals. Delivered with a vivacious glamour and charisma, ‘Turn It On’ sees Show Boy celebrate the “primal spark of excitement that meeting new friends and entering new relationships can bring” and the track fully exudes this joyous energy.

Estonian rapper Tommy Cash. A photoshop virtuoso.

Windmill Brixton and Dalston Superstore are both very special.

My dad playing wonky Beatles tunes on the piano.

Anything that isn’t served in a primary school.

My Favourite word…

Highfalutin. It is what I aspire to be.

Hearing that Little Britain has been taken off Netflix!

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…

Animal Crossing. Or Fortnite, like Marshmello did. These are the only gig formats that will exist in the new world.

I think you should listen to…

I’ve been liking a track called ‘Golden Bobcat’ by Provokief this week. No idea who they are but somehow came across them through the divine algorithms that govern my life.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…

A very nice change!

‘Turn It On’ is out now. ‘Ishtar Lion’ EP coming soon.
