AVA Belfast, Gottwood, Love International, Freerotation, Lovebox and Houghton… You only have to scan over Saoirse’s festival bookings for 2018 to see that she is a DJ in serious demand.
An artist on the rise, Saoirse was thrown in the deep end as a child when her mum took her to free raves near their hometown of Dublin, where she was made privy to the sounds of Leftfield and Orbital. Since then, years of crate digging, radio time on RTE and Rinse FM, and playing parties all over London and beyond has helped Saoirse solidify her position as one of the most dynamic and exciting DJs you can see play out right now. With a focus on house and techno, her sets are adventurous and gloriously unpredictable – a testament to years spent curating a very impressive record collection.
Ahead of her performance at AVA Belfast – one of the most notorious (in a very, very good way) parties of the year – Saoirse has got us seriously yearning for festival season with her selections. Check below and be prepared, these cuts are NSFW because you will want to dance.
SHA’LOR – I’M IN LOVE
It was around 5.30am at Barbarella’s for Love International festival in Croatia a couple of years back. Ben UFO and Craig Richards had been playing a pretty punchy techno focused b2b. Then just as the sun started to rise, one of them slammed this on and wow! The atmosphere on the dancefloor was so good that it still makes my hairs stand up just thinking about it. I had that overwhelming feeling of “I’M HAVING SUCH A GOOD TIME!” lol. So yeah, this is a firm festival favourite for me.
RALPHI ROSARIO – YOU USED TO HOLD ME
It was the final day of Freerotation festival. I’d had about 2 hours sleep and would have liked to have slept for longer but my best mate Shanti was starting in the outdoor dome tent shortly. So, I crawled out of the tent and put a stupid pineapple hat on, went to the bar and ordered a Guinness (one of my favourite things about Freerotation is that they serve pints of the black stuff there). I hobbled into the dome feeling pretty bloody gross, and then Shanti threw this down. The energy in the tent gave me that final and best wind of the whole weekend.
TONY ALLEN – AFRICAN MAN (VILLALOBOS – LODERBAUER ZUHOUSE REMIX)
The first time I heard this, Ricardo was playing in Paris at Weather festival, as I heard the percussion come in I was like “oooh, this sounds like a new Ricardo,” I was already feeling joyous about it, then BAM, “OOHHH this sounds like a Tony Allen track, wait wait, I guess that means Ricardo has remixed Tony Allen?!!” Happy times.
JOSEPH MALIK – TAKE IT ALL IN AND CHECK IT ALL OUT (AQUA BASSINO’S GROOVE UNRELEASED MIX)
It’s about 8am, the sun is now properly splitting the stones of the Smolian Mountains in Bulgaria, I’ve been playing for about 3 hours for Meadows In The Mountains but the only thing that can work for me now, at the top of this mountain with the most beautiful views I’ve ever witnessed, is this soulful little number.
BLONDIE + PHILIP GLASS – HEART OF GLASS (CRABTREE REMIX)
I was in Morrocco, playing in this ridiculous Ampitheatre that looks like something out of Troy. The whole time I was playing I was thinking about the type of music that was actually performed in these places when they were originally built. I couldn’t’ quite work it out, but I was going through my record bag thinking I needed something with big strings and over the top emotion, so I went with this epic piece.
