Reviews // Young Dreams – Between Places

Modular Recordings // Out Now

Usually sounding somewhere between Crocodiles and Yeasayer, with occasional nods towards Animal Collective, this group of mysterious Norwegians bring us a debut album that’s poppy and intriguing without ever being truly spectacular. It’s not a particularly bad album, it’s just been done a lot better by an endless list of artists. ‘First Days of Something’ and ‘Young Dreams’ do provide some originality, but aren’t capable of elevating the record above similar work. Sometimes epic, sometimes odd, but always attempting to emulate their idols a little bit too much. It’s a not a terrible place to start, but they’ve got some catching up to do.
