Mt. Wolf – Hypolight

Two Sisters // Out Now

The bolder, racier, elder sibling to last year’s wide-eyed “dreamfolk” debut, Mt. Wolf’s latest EP ‘Hypolight’ swells with the newly found confidence of a more lived in skin, but one which is also attempting to veil feelings of regret, loss and rejection underneath a surface of happier memories. In this particular case, the London four-piece do so by interspersing their graceful, forlorn cinematic expanses with blissful guitar strings, warm stuttering beats, an enveloping calm and, finally, if you weren’t quite convinced, a cover of Usher’s ‘Climax’. Ultimately though, it’s impossible to ignore the bitter undercurrent of Kate Sproule’s longing siren calls.
