Review // Small Black – Limits of Desire

Fed up with their chillwave label, the Brooklyn exports have been away and tried their absolute utmost to rebrand themselves. While there is still evidence of ‘New Chain’ lurking in the background as with ‘Outskirts’ and ‘Only A Shadow’, it’s a departure from 2010 and this is not entirely the Small Black some may be familiar with. The electronics are toned down and the vocals are more prominent, but it still works incredibly well. They might see a shift in their fanbase, but full credit should be given to a band who refuse to be pigeonholed into fashionable genres.
