Review // Joanna Gruesome – Weird Sister

jo gruFortuna Pop! // September 9th

Working quietly under the radar for the past few years, eager ears have finally started pricking up for Joanna Gruesome in 2013 – and it’s easy to see why. Signing to Slumberland and Fortuna POP! and recording with Hookworms’ MJ, the Cardiff five-piece have stuck a comb through their hair and had a scrub behind their ears; the result being a more “accessible” sound and songs ascending through the fuzz. Flitting between punky scream and delicate lullaby combined with jangly guitar and some seriously good song-writing, ‘Weird Sister’ is everything you could want from a debut album and more. Joanna Gruesome kick some serious butt.
