Review // Hooded Fang – Gravez

Full Time Hobby // May 27th

When Toronto’s Hooded Fang birthed last year’s ‘Tosta Mista’ album it proved to be a bundle of joy with real legs, a slow-burning whirl of garage pop hooks with insouciant charms aplenty. In comparison, its follow up ‘Gravez’ feels a tad premature, mining the exact same furrow of jangling guitars and reverb-splashed vocals, but falling a little short in terms of sticking power. Lead track ‘Graves’ has a bracing sense of momentum about it that cuts through the chaff, and ‘Trasher”s marching drum-like rhythmic sniping are highlights that prove they still have a knack for a chant-a-long crowd-pleaser in there somewhere.
