Chvrches – The Bones of What You Believe // Album Review

chvrchesVirgin – Out Now

Faced with a level of snowballing hype that would make The 1975 grind their teeth with envy, Glasgow’s Chvrches wisely hunkered down and let the melee take its course. ‘The Bones Of What You Believe’, where it flies, concocts a really quite glorious backdrop of brightly twinkling synths and ricocheting melodies to wrap around singer Lauren Mayberry. That can be said of about two thirds of the album, particularly the singles and the splendidly careening ‘Night Sky’. The remainder is pleasant, sure, but just not quite magical enough to stop you plummeting back to reality with a Pro Tools-enhanced thump.
