Remi Wolf makes candy-sweet, kaleidoscopic pop that is undeniably, exuberantly fun. As she releases the infectious ‘Photo ID’ today we caught up with her to talk five tracks that have influenced her vibrant sound.
Following on from the incredible ‘Woo!’, released earlier this month, Remi’s latest single further entices us into her charming, idiosyncratic pop world that is fuelled by 90s nostalgia whilst existing in a fresh, cosmic realm of its own design. ‘Photo ID’ sees the Californian artist serve up a lively, off-kilter blend of dulcet pop melodies, psych-funk freakouts, and twinkling percussion with Remi’s potent, honeyed vocals soaring atop. Remi’s creative vision fully shines through both in her music and in her incredible visual aesthetic, as ‘Photo ID’ further demonstrates.
Speaking on the amazingly colourful and trippy video, directed by Agusta Yr, Remi expresses “I love this video. Just a straight up dancing vibe. I included the mask because we made this video in quarantine and I felt the mask is kind of this universal thing at the moment” she explains. “We all now know that exact feeling of going outside with a mask. All the other versions of me are dancing indoors, which I thought was important because the reality of modern dance parties is that you gotta do that shit yourself! This video is all about letting go, escaping reality a bit, and getting your booty wiggling!”. And this is a whole vibe we can definitely get behind.
