Tobacco Dock – March 12th 2016
Outlier, the new event series curated by Simon Green aka Bonobo launched, to electro heads’ joy, on Saturday 12th March. The idea of Outlier is to get the best of the best, more obscure yet wildly talented talent under one roof for one massively special rave. London was up first, and Green has plans to take it international throughout spring/ summer following up, of course, in Berlin, Paris and two dates in NYC.
East London’s Tobacco Dock was the venue in question for the initiation, which complemented the line-up just perfectly. This included some of the most innovative names in electronic music now; think French producer Rone, live band Yussef Kamaal Trio, and Guy Andrews who teamed up with Gilles Peterson for the day.
The really rather special 10 hours and 30 minutes saw a yin-yang approach that created an optimal balance between live acts and DJs, the vibe was electric. Melodic ambient techno, hypnotic electronica and even unexpected doses of hip-hop sweetened up the beautiful attendees, who gloriously danced the day and night away. And to top it all off, the man himself Simon Green took to the stage and by George, he didn’t disappoint, playing the old and the new, ensuring the crowd knew exactly why he’s the success story he is today.
OUTLIER London was an absolute joy, proving Green’s inimitable talent not only as a musical genius but a force to be reckoned with when it comes to event curation. We’re already in the queue for the next one. Who’s with us?
