The first time we caught Our Girl they had an entirely different name, were playing in a weird West London bar on a bill with Oscar and Fake Laugh, making fairly charming if somewhat delicate music. Having released their debut EP late last year and they’ve now nailed a fuller, more driven sound, there’s a sense of urgency and purpose yet still they manage to never lose that charming edge.

Catch them at The Waiting Room on March 22nd.

If I had to describe our music in 3 words, I’d use…
Lauren: Honest, dynamic
Soph: And noisy
Josh: Calm, aggressive, intense

My favourite film ever is…
Soph: There are many. But one I love and have been craving watching for weeks is Belleville Rendez-Vous
Lauren: Mine is either Rushmore or La Science des rêves
Josh: Into The Wild I reckon.

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Soph: Richard Ayoade? Or Laura Marling! How can you measure someone’s fame?
Lauren: I went onstage with Outkast once – FACT
Josh: The Tallest Man on Earth

The best venue I’ve played so far is..
Soph: We played at Koko at New Years this year and that was so much fun
Lauren: Yeah, I liked Koko as well
Josh: Thirded

The song I hate the most is…
Lauren: I strongly dislike Word Up by Cameo and also Funky Town by Lipps Inc
Josh: Apple Bottom Jeans
Soph: Maybe Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye. The catchiness kind of sneaks in and makes me feel a bit good sometimes but that makes it more annoying

The Worst Job I’ve ever had is...
Soph: Being a waitress/barista/sandwich maker at a cafe by myself. I know that’s not bad, but I get so sweaty and stressed and seem to develop some sort of face blindness which is very unhelpful in that kind of situation
Lauren: Working at New Look in Harrow when I first moved to London, worst customers ever
Josh: Alleyway vegetable peeler, exposed to the elements behind a cafe

If I was in a tribute band it would be a….
Soph: Beach Boys
Lauren: Fleetwood Mac
Josh: Hot Chocolate

My Favourite word is….
Lauren: Visceral
Soph: Pineapple
Josh: Gubbins

If I had a super power I’d want it to be….
Soph: Apparating. But I’d need to have like a 5 times a week rule or I’d get lazy
Lauren: Same probably, but I’d like to be able to fly whilst doing that, added bonus.
Josh: I always think invisibility but I’d end up just doing all the things I normally do but sometimes not be seen – kind of sad. Flying, I think flying is best.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Lauren: I’d love to play Roundhouse, my favourite ever venue
Soph: Ooh me too, that would be the dream!
Josh: Royal Albert Hall would be great

I think you should listen to…
Lauren: Check out Wovoka Gentle and also Gang, both very different, but really great
Soph: Breathe Panel, Marika Hackman
Josh: Land Observations

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Soph: Amy Winehouse
Lauren: Marvin Gaye
Josh: Kyle Bobby Dunn

Our Girl play The Waiting Room on March 22nd
