Nite Fields // In Short

nite fields

Having just released their debut album Depersonalisation, Nite Fields have unleashed a torrent of defiantly catchy, shoe-gaze tinged brilliance. With the intensely deep vocals of lead singer Danny Venzin vocals giving their music a forboding edge and grounding their sound, brilliantly juxtaposed to the jangley light guitars. The result is a mature, characterful release that is an incredible feat, especially considering they’ve only been together little over a year.

To celebrate the release Nite Fields will be playing The Old Blue Last on December 23rd (Free), before that though, we got to know them a little better:

If we had to describe our music in 3 words, we’d use…
Bloodsugar Sex Magik

My favourite film ever is…
Wake In Fright (1971). Any Ozploitations are up there though.

The most famous person I’ve met it…
Brian Chase (drummer in the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s)

The best venue I’ve played so far is…
The Amsterdam Club in Petrozadosk, Russia. The club itself was pretty standard but it was on the banks of Lake Onega which was completely frozen over. It was around -23 degrees when we played so everything was covered in this crystal-like ice.

The song I hate the most is…
I find it genuinely hard to hate songs, but what the hell were they thinking in the early 2000’s with all those voice-altered, techno-acid pop songs?

The Worst Job I’ve ever had is…
A deli in Sydney. The manager was crazy and started The Lasagna Wars with the chef. She and the job were so stressful I started vomiting up blood from ulcers. Fun times!

If I was in a tribute band it would be a….
The Go Betweens tribute band

My Favourite word is….

If I had a super power I’d want it to be….
Reading people’s minds – I feel like life would be a bit easier if I knew what people really meant!

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Teufelsberg (the abandoned CIA listening tower in Berlin). The sound acoustics inside the domes are really amazing.

I think you should listen to…
Something off the beaten track. Dig deep.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Love Cult are really high on my list at the moment, but this is a really hard question!
