Get to know Sydney trio Mansionair ahead of their performance at The Great Escape.

Despite having just a handful of releases to their name, Sydney based trio Mansionair have successfully honed their sound and established their blueprint. After amassing over a million streams in under two months with their stunning debut single ‘Hold Me Down’, the pair have gone on to support the likes of London Grammar, CHVRCHES and alt-J on tour, as well as collaborating with Seattle’s ODESZA on their single ‘Line of Sight’.

Coupling soulful vocal riffs and pop hooks with stripped back electronic production, Mansionair are instrumentalist and producer Lachlan Bostock, vocalist Jack Froggatt and drummer Alex Nicholls. The band share a sonic space with artists like alt-J whilst retaining their own unique and sensitive tone. Their latest offering, the soaring ‘Violet City’, sees the pair adding more intricate textures to their material than we’ve heard before, with great success. Released in April via Glassnote Records – also home to the likes of Daughter, Two Door Cinema Club and Flight Facilities – ‘Violet City’ is a delight in its driving percussion, catchy melodies and cinematic string progressions.

As they prepare for their headline performance at London’s Moth Club on May 15th, as well as a show at The Great Escape a couple of days later, we caught up with Sydney’s Mansionair to find out what makes them tick…

We played Ally Pally a couple of years ago with CHVRCHES and Four Tet. Definitely a highlight for us. We didn’t realise till we got there that it’s literally a massive palace!

The song we can’t listen to…
Lach: Carbon copy pop music with those like plucky synth stab sounds at the start.
Jack: Anything Post Malone… Also ‘Young, Dumb, & Broke’.

The worst job we’ve ever had…
Lach: I used to wash dishes at a pizza place, There would be times where I had to clean out the all the gross leftover food. Definitely was pretty happy when I got promoted to delivery driver.
Jack: Paper run

Our favourite meal to cook…
Lach: Recently discovered how to make sweet potato lasagne with ricotta filling. It’s wild.
Jack: Brown rice & roasted veggies.
