We get to know the creative force behind the hypnotic vocal and trailblazing artistry of Malena Zavala.
It’s refreshing to witness an artist whose career has flourished completely organically, whose music champions their roots and so exquisitely expresses their home values. A SoundCloud success snapped up and signed completely to her surprise, our next big thing Malena Zavala prides herself in the complete production of haunting, minimalist psych-pop, blending bluesy guitar lines with tender, Latin-influenced beats and bewitchingly serene vocals.
Argentinean-born, Zavala was bought up in Britain and raised to purse what she loved; a free-thinking approach that’s very much evident in her music. Influenced by guitar players such as Blake Mills and the hazy dream-pop of Beach House and Tame Impala, her forthcoming debut album Aliso was part-made in her parent’s garage, but is set to inspire the ears of fans far beyond her home turf.
Latest single ‘A Vision That’s Changed’ encompasses the realism of moving on from past love, Zavala maintaining the ability to create escapist dream-pop which isn’t to the detriment of relatable themes. Listen here:
