Corsica Studios – 15/6/13
I’ll admit I didn’t catch all of James Holden’s set to celebrate the release of his glorious new album, The Inheritors. I am, after all, only a human man and eight hours is just too much. I did my best – I was there for five and a half hours of his brain-frazzling set and emerged, blinking into the 6am sky, confused, wide-eyed and exhausted but very happy after a propulsive set of his own stuff – including a gigantic Renata – and loads of other glitchy-krautrock-rave hybrids including a thunderous Battles remix of Four Tet. The crowd go wild and energy levels never drop. This man knows how to time a set – even one eight hours long.
