Having released ‘Always’ earlier this year, his first solo material since 2016, Knox Brown has done it again in the form of a super smooth slice of future R&B called ’Flex’. We had a chat little chat with the singer-songwriter to find out what makes him tick.

Knox’s has already had an impressive career behind the scenes as a producer and songwriter for the likes of Beyoncé, Jay Z, Janelle Monae, Mary J. Blige, H.E.R., Emeli Sandé, Timbaland and Jess Glynne. His debut EP, ‘Searching’, was a six track collection that featured appearances from Anderson Paak (No Slaves), BJ The Chicago Kid and Kojey Radical.

After years of searching for his sound, Knox has come to the conclusion that he doesn’t have one and instead he’s following his heart, trusting his gut, and making the best music of his career. With production duties on the backburner 2018 is the year when Knox Brown puts himself front and centre.

Knox’s music follows him from the streets of Kingston, Jamaica where he spent his childhood, to the Midlands (Birmingham) where his parents relocated when he was 12 years old and finally to London where he recently moved.

On ‘Flex’ Knox sounds both familiar and groundbreaking and has said the following about it: “Flex is about being carefree and being able to show off for once without any repercussions or judgements. Based on society’s ideals and how social media has affected the way we live. After working hard for years and finally being in a position to be able to live that  ‘Flex’ life you have seen on TV and in people whilst growing up as a young boy in Jamaica and England”.

Three words to describe our/my music
I want to say (Soulful Throwback Undertones) but its usually a painting of my mood at the time of recording so it’s hard to say.

Favourite ever film…
Any Wes Anderson picture! (I love symmetry) I’m a partime neat freak!

Favourite instagram account…
<ahref=”http://instagram.com/Truegrittexturesupply”>@Truegrittexturesupply

The best venue I’ve played…
Haven’t played a venue yet

The song I can’t listen to…
Anything from my first EP “Searching” (overplayed when I did the pre mix)

The worst job I’ve ever had…
Never had a bad job but if I had to choose it was a sales and marketing job. I just hated how over positive and hyped we all had to be at 6AM every morning! Lol

My favourite meal to cook…
Ok so I take a pineapple and cut it in half and empty it so it’s like a dish and I’ll cook pasta with beef and broccoli with chives 🤓

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
The Persuaders or Black Sabbath

My Favourite word….
Amazon (those who know me will chuckle at this)

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be….
I’m guessing we all want to fly otherwise …invisibility would be the next best thing oooh, or having a bullshit radar built in!

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
The Moon or on The International Space Station.

I think you should listen to…
Armando Young “Loved Ones”

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Stevie Wonder

‘Flex’ is out now.
