Standing tall as one of UK funky’s most important figures, KG reveals five tracks that have influenced her from across the musical spectrum.

By continuing to tear up dancefloors with her Sensei EP on Goon Club Allstars earlier this year, KG cemented her reputation as one of dance music’s most exciting talents and fearless selectors. Dropping one of the highlights on the recent HeForShe x femme culture compilation, plus building on last year’s acclaimed releases via Hyperdub and RKS, KG has proved that few can compete with her when it comes to infectious club cuts, mesmerising production and devastating beats. We can’t get enough.

On her selection for In Five, KG says: “These tracks I will forever have on rotation. Permanent favourites of all time (with some new discoveries) and interestingly enough, you will get a rough idea of where I draw my musical inspirations from.”

‘Nite Life’ (Armand Van Helden Mix) by Kim English

Kim English – phenomenal vocalist (R.I.P xx) love her soulful riffs on this track, real powerhouse. The most special thing about ‘Nite Life’ is the switch between the harder 90s rave synths and the sultry House chords/pads that follow shortly after. Floor filler energy!

‘Switz’ by DJ Lag

Love South African ‘Gqom’ I am a huge fan of DJ Lag’s music. With ‘Switz’, even in its simplicity, that low end with the percussive breaks in between, incredibly provoking and it tears the roof OFF in clubs. This track is a regular in my sets!

‘Rambo’ by Culoe De Song

A classic House rhythm – the snares – this drum pattern is so fire! It’s that arpeggiated melody line on top as well – builds up anticipation before the drop! Dangerous!

‘Self Religion’ (Believe In Me) by Hardsoul Reconstruction

From my fave era of House, Karizma and DJ Gregory tracks were also circulating heavy around this time too. ‘Self Religion’ –  one of my go-to tracks for when I want to create more of that euphoric mood whilst playing out!

‘Another Lover’ by VanJess

Huge fan of VanJess, Nigerian-American R&B vocal duo. ‘Another Lover’ produced by Kaytranada (one of my favourite producers) has this uptempo House & Afrobeat swing to it. This is my vibe! Love the soul elements as well.
