With lilting, candied melodies and mellifluous, honeyed vocals Josie Man’s sound is undeniably charming. She released her debut single ‘Colours’ last month, a dreamy, vibrant pop gem that certainly makes us excited to hear more. With her debut EP due out next year, we caught up with the rising talent to find out a little more about her.

On ‘Colours’ Josie Man explores finding confidence and acceptance in differences, and expressing a self-assurance in her own being. Hailing from Orpington and Hong Kong, her personality and pride in her identity shines through the music and the video for ‘Colours’ sees Josie Man enlist the help of various family members who appear in it as extras.

With her debut EP dropping early 2020, get to know Josie Man In Short…

Three words to describe my music… Eclectic Pisces bops

Last photo on your phone… A picture of a Gucci barber gown that I saw in a barbershop in Peckham to send to my boyfriend, he’s a barber

Favourite instagram account… @coco_pinkprincess

The best venue I’ve played… Royal Dragon karaoke bar in Chinatown

Earliest song you remember…How Deep Is Your Love by The Bee Gees. My Dad used to play it in the car when he would drive us to nursery.

The worst job I’ve ever had… I’ve had a few retail jobs… I’m not very good at standing still because I never have appropriate footwear on and I’m too restless. And I hated pretending to make myself look busy when I wasn’t!

Favourite food on tour…I haven’t been on tour (yet!) but I always bring a veg stock cube and a can of chickpeas to sessions. The best vegan snack.

My Favourite word… Gluten-free

Things that cheer me up…Being around the people I love. Strangers who randomly smile at you. Gluten-free bread.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be… Hong Kong. I have a lot of family out there, the vibe is amazing everywhere and the venues are incredible.

I think you should listen to… Bill Withers – Live at Carnegie Hall.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…Fleetwood Mac!

‘Colours’ is out now.
