You’ve got less than a month before the Visions festival blows your mind. And to help you get fighting fit ahead of the one-day no-holds-barred extravaganza coming to London Fields, we bring you one of Vision’s most precocious and outlandish artists, Iglooghost.

We caught up with the 18-year-old technicolour sound artist and Londoner – real name Seamus Malliagh – to ask him the burning questions ahead of his long trek from university in Bath to Hackney on festival day. He’s been in high demand ever since he was signed to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, a reality that still seems to flummox Seamus.

Having fashioned a bit of an obsession with the Los Angeles-based super producer, he thought it was a good idea to – literally – lob his homemade cassette tapes at him during shows. The relationship began from there… and the end result was a Twitter DM from Fly Lo himself. A virtual handshake ensued, which was followed by his first EP – Chinese Nü Yr – dropping on Brainfeeder in October. “The EP is a story about a gelatinous worm-shaped creature who wears a witch hat called xiāngjiāo,” Seamus explains.

“He/she is really sad because his/her existence consists of infinitely being blasted through endless wormholes into different worlds that don’t make any sense – full of floating fruit and pink mist. He/she has a voice played by my little sister but sometimes my dad.

“He/she is perennially sad and terrified because it doesn’t make any sense why he/she was randomly born into this existence, but he/she is also shit scared because being shot at light speed through wormholes is probably fucking terrifying.”

Got that?

Currently, Seamus is tucked up in his lab (aka halls of residence) where he admits to spending all of his waking hours on his debut album. “It’s making me go a bit insane and sometimes I smash everything in my room over it,” he says. Coming from a lad who once released a collaborative rap album with Mr Yote as a giant pink helium balloon with a download code, I’d say it’s going to be worth checking out.

In the meantime, we’ve got Visions. And it’s your chance to catch some of the fast-rising stars and musical oddballs such as Iglooghost. Go on, you know you want to…

If I had to describe my music in 3 words, I’d use…
Embarrassing, vile, slightly too fast

My favourite film ever is…
Maybe the first Digimon movie. I remember when I was four when my mum and I went to Somerfields (a shitty supermarket that doesn’t really exist now…) and I got a VHS copy of Pokemon 2000 and the Digimon movie. At the time I fucked with Pokemon way more. But it took me a couple years to realise that Digimon film is a piece of sublime futurist art. They go into the fucking internet and it’s like this white void with loads of data floating around and fight this evil multiplying virus Digimon. Meanwhile the kids are like hacking every computer on the planet. It has this dope vibe where everyone in the world is sort of watching them so you feel super involved and on edge. 10/10 – the best film of all time!

The most famous person I’ve met is…
I guess Flying Lotus? I probably passed a few famous people on the street without knowing it. I did a show with Ghostface Killah but he was a wee wee baby.

The song I hate the most is…
‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles. That chord progression was forged in hell. It’s everything I don’t want to hear in one song.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
A tribute to OOIOO – that would be fun.

My favourite word is…
Quite like the words gold, pale, peach, soy, gum, felt and steam.

If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
Freeze time so I can make a lifetime’s worth of music. And then unfreeze so I can relax, but still slowly release all of it.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Really want to play in rural China, outside by some mountains at like 7pm.

I think you should listen to…
Been loving Seiho’s album Collapse – I just don’t know where those sounds come from! I played a gig with him and his performance made me reconsider everything. He got da juice.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Seiho. Again. Nah… Ummm, I’ve always wanted to see Swans. Go in raw, no earplugs, go deaf. Michael Gira: destroy my means of survival!
