The amount of times the word ‘short(s)’ was used to organise this In Short with Hot Shorts borders on ridiculous. But lucky for Manchester’s Hot Shorts (does the word ‘Short’ still look like a real word to you?) they don’t take themselves too seriously.

The wonderfully relatable ‘My Phone Is A Fucking Piece of Shit’, for example, is a buzzy piece of grunge pop that sees the four-piece recreate that iconic Friends shoot – only for two whole minutes as a delightfully awkward music video.

Ahead of their first ever London show next month, we threw all the usual In Short Qs to Hot Short’s Chris, and here’s what he had to say.

If I had to describe my music in 3 words, I’d use…
Timid pretend grunge.

My favourite film ever is…
It keeps changing. (Today it’s La La Land. Last week it was Miami Connection.)

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Goldie Hawn. I was giving out flyers at an HMV in Vancouver, and she asked me about CD wallets.

The song I hate the most is…
Also keeps changing. I don’t know. Seems mean to publicly say I hate something.

The worst job I’ve ever had is…
Doing a weird telephone survey, where I had to ask old people how happy they were on a scale from 1-10.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
A Shudder to Think one? We could be called … um … Shudder Too Think.

My favourite word is…
Sorry.

If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
Unlimited confidence.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
On the Weezer cruise.

I think you should listen to…
Brunch – they’re my heroes.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Shudder to Think (not Shudder Too Think)

Hot Shorts play Paper Dress on 2nd Feb.
