With her Girl Eats Sun EP hot on the horizon, Hope Tala follows up her stunning single All My Girls Like To Fight with a captivating new track, Crazy. We had a chat with her to talk about her music and her feelings about 2020 – dive into the track below and get caught up with Hope Tala.
Hi Hope, how are you?
I’m good! Obviously times are crazy and shitty, but I’m trying my hardest to focus on all the positives and silver linings. Like at least I’m not out at war fighting the nazis like my grandad was at my age. In that sense I can’t really complain.
We are loving ‘Crazy’ – what does this song mean to you?
Thank you! My favourite type of songs to make are feel good love songs, and Crazy definitely falls under that category. It just makes me really happy, and we all need happy music right now!
Your EP, Girl Eat Sun, hits next week – what can we expect from it?
Good stories and strong production. Fearlessness and vulnerability in the same breath. And a couple of my favourite artists make appearances, which is really exciting for me.
How has lockdown in London affected your creativity?
It’s been a mixed bag. For the most part I’ve felt pretty uninspired, but I don’t feel too down about it because I know a big creative surge will be coming in the wake of that. I’ve made a few new songs I love, and I’ve read a lot of great literature which I know will have a positive impact on the next few songs I write.
What can we expect from you next?
An album! Next year.
Lastly, who are you listening to at the moment?
I’m obsessed with Samia’s new album ‘The Baby’ – it’s some of the best writing I’ve ever heard. She’s like a 21st Century Plath. Also a lot of Victoria Monét, Lianne La Havas and Aminé.
Girl Eats Sun comes out on October 30th
