A propulsive, sultry and grungy track, ‘Hellboy’ is a heady, fiery ride from start to finish and we’re still listening to it on heavy rotation. We caught up with Herizen to talk Cat Stevens, Juevos Rancheros and her dog.

Following on from singles ‘Troublemaker’ and ‘1st Place’, released earlier in the year, on ‘Hellboy’ Herizen further carves out her distinctive, compelling sound. Accompanied by booming grunge basslines and skittering emo-trap beats, Herizen’s potent, spellbinding vocals cascade with silken hypnotism. Speaking on the track, Herizen says “‘Hellboy’ is a special song about my biggest heartbreak, a wild boy, and pure madness, a love. This is my baby and it is a gift to share it with you.” This pure passion and emotion behind the track is undeniably tangible and makes for a truly captivating listen.

Get to know Herizen In Short…

Three words to describe my music…
My music changes with me but right now I would say its  colorful, grungy, and emotional.

Last photo on your phone…
Picture of a rock island in the middle of the ocean.

Favourite instagram account…
Stylemefresh I love the aesthetic, and randomness of the posts, it takes me into the photo bubble and I start imagining myself in those places or doing those things, it’s a bit like a vision board in that way.

The best venue I’ve played…
Roxy theatre, I liked how intimate it was, and the location is classic.

Earliest song you remember…
Moonshadow by Cat Stevens, my dad use to play it all the time and it stuck with me, and It still has the feelings of joy, melancholy, and a touch of fear, probably because of its lyrics there’s something very sad about about them as a little kid you pick up on those sort of things. I will always remember road trips with him playing it and singing along, while keeping the beat on the dashboard.

The worst job I’ve ever had…
Shoveling horse s@#$ hahahah, I started horseback riding when I was about Seven years old, and it has and always will be one of my most favorite things to do. When I was about 10 I got a summer job working at a ranch and as much I love riding horses I am not as big a fan of cleaning what comes out of them.

<The thing I most love to cook is…
Juevos rancheros, I love breakfast food and I like Mexican food and lots of flavor, so this dish is my go-to.I also like making things look as appetizing as possible and I’ve got this one on lock!

My Favourite word…
Creature, to me it represents the nature that crawls out of everything and everyone  at least once, its a hidden spirit that lives in everything.

A book I love…
Its technically a play, but A Midsummer Nights Dream is definitely something I love to revisit, its so delightful, and funny, I love how the many subplots blend deliciously together. The entire play has an undertone of lust and magic, very nice I might say haha 🙂

Things that cheer me up…
Hikes with my favorite furball Bynghi the very happy dog, making music, and laughing about absolutely nothing with my two beautiful, incorrigible sisters.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Well if its anywhere It would definitely have to be floating on Pandora.

I think you should listen to…
I think everyone should to listen to Bob Marley as often as they can, because he makes you feel like you’re grounded in the earth, and spreads a positive movement across the planet, and that is very important and is what we need especially now. Unity.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
I think I would have to be Jimi  Hendrix, need I explain why… <3
