We caught up with Bristol producer, singer and songwriter, Harvey Causon, to listen to his new single ‘Artifice’ and find out a little more about him via some quick-fire questions.

Harvey Causon’s beautiful new track, ‘Artifice’, showcases his ability to shape and mould R&B influenced electronic music with jazz influences and a distinctive UK spin. Having been on the alternative Bristol music scene for just over three years, the Bristol based singer, songwriter and producer has become a sought-after singer and multi-instrumentalist with a steady flow of exceptional releases including ‘London Stock’ (recently supported in Annie Mac’s ‘New Name’ slot on Radio 1) and ‘Worn You’.

Speaking on the single, Harvey said: “‘Artifice’ depicts the short-term feelings of ‘eudaemonia’ that come from feeding temptations after breaking away from a strong relationship. As it unravels however it highlights the sense of unease, regret and subconscious gameplay that comes with previously being so attached to someone.”

So it’s of my flatmate Gabe. He’s dressed sort of like he’s just been on a hike… ‘cool dad vibes’. He’d just got back from doing foley work in the studio with a really trendy suitcase full of things he’s collected that make sounds from around the flat.

A bit of @cool3dworld hyperreality never fails to keep me entertained.

The best venue i’ve played
Gotta be Brixton Academy, an unreal room with so much history!

Earliest song you remember…
‘wind the bobbin up, wind the bobbin up, wind the bobbin up…. pull, pull, pull’… that song. I think I used to play it on a glockenspiel and go around hitting people on the cheeks on the ‘pull’ bit… obviously.

Worst job I’ve had…
I had a job in a cafe in the middle of an ancient woodland which was beautiful but my boss went a bit crazy with a coke addiction, started doing it in the toilets in the day and ran the place into the ground. He was always sweaty as well… not what you want from an ice cream man really.

Favourite food on your…
All I need is a good authentic noodle broth. Hard to come across on tour I know.

My favourite word…
Recently came across ‘Apeiron’ – boundless, infinite, unlimited.

Things that cheer me up…
Taking a walk or sticking Tommy Genesis on.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
I’d love to play at the Barbican, but there are endless European venues I’d like to get to play.

I think you should listen to…
Jockstrap and Káryyn! Both really exciting and new.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Still haven’t caught FKA Twigs, Bjork or Radiohead. All on the list!

‘Artifice’ is out now.
