A recent signing to Different Recordings and new London residents, Groves have quickly established themselves with club nights, warehouse parties and live shows in the capital.

Their atmospheric live shows are coupled with their love of house on their debut single “Do You Feel”, which you can listen to below:

In a bid to get to know the five-piece better, and ahead of their show this November, we asked them to run us through some of their favourite (and least favourite) things.

If I had to describe my music in 3 words, I’d use…
crunchy, groove-based, over-complicated.

My favourite film ever is…
The Thing probably edges it.

The most famous person I’ve met is…
David Attenborough. I met him once and made him a cheese sandwich. Wholemeal bread, no butter.

The song I hate the most is…
I’m not sure who it’s by, but the one on the radio a lot about ‘kisses’ and ‘needing stitches’. Makes me want to give up.

The worst job I’ve ever had is…
I spent a week digging up a nice garden as the owner thought something in the soil was stopping her from sleeping. We dug down over a metre, shifted about 4 or 5 tonnes of earth and completely destroyed her backyard. She was a lecturer at Oxford and I still suspect we were taking part in some kind of existential satire.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
I don’t think I could.

My favourite word is…
Verbose.

If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
Flying?

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Anywhere hot and by the sea is good.

I think you should listen to…
Our helping hand The Cyclist/Buz Ludzha. looking forward to the Soft Hair album. Cass McCombs new album has some great songs on it.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Talking Heads at their peak. Not sure now.

Groves play [PIAS Nites] at Omeara on 3rd November.
