A German in Copenhagen, Denmark, Greta Schenk has just released her debut album under the name GRETA.

As confident a debut as you’ll hear in 2020, Ardent Spring – produced by Norway’s Farao – is packed full of psychedelic pop songs filtered through GRETA’s classic pop and rock influences and brimful of vintage synth sounds that give many of the tracks a space age feel. Most recent single ‘Again’ is hazy and dreamlike while ‘Hydrogen’ is a stunning song worthy of a place next to the best Scandi pop tracks in recent years. The rest of the album is just as good.

We caught up with GRETA recently to find out more….

Last photo on your phone…
I just have been Berlin to record new music. They have the best fleamarkets, so that’s where I found the snake ring. I think I took the picture to show my mum, haha.

Favourite instagram account…
@frederikke_legaard (a Danish artist who also won something like “The Big BakeOff” in Denmark. Her work and her pictures are so visually satisfying and make me feel calm, happy and super inspired at the same time.

The best venue I’ve played…
Technically not a venue but this spring I played in a field during sunset with my band. With birds singing and everything. It was a livestream concert during lockdown. An amazing experience.

Earliest song you remember…

The worst job I’ve ever had…
When I was very young and had just come to Denmark, I worked at a bar and it was the worst. It was a combination of me having no experience and being super nervous and clumsy. I dropped a whole tray of beer (15 beers) in the middle of a crowd and quit after a week.

The thing I most love to cook is…
Right now: tagliatelle with chanterelles

My Favourite word…
LIEBE (love in german)

A book I love…
Harry Potter

Things that cheer me up…
Walks (and swims) by the ocean, spending time with my husband, my friends, my family, cooking, fleamarkets, spring in berlin, sunbeams, summer in Copenhagen, creating with no pressure, recording in Berlin with Kari (FARAO), dancing and partying until the early morning (I do that very rarely), discovering new music, creating moodboards and lists, slow mornings, spring, good coffee & matcha latte, good food, nature, visiting my parents, birds singing (seagulls!!!)

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
Roskilde Festival (I was supposed to play there this summer, but it got cancelled because of, you know, – biggest dream almost come true).

I would also love to play at Berghain someday….

I think you should listen to…
My producers (FARAO) new band Ultraflex. Their debut album (coming October 30) will blow your mind.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Pink Floyd at a Festival
