Great Ytene // In Short

great-ytene-away-for-now
You may have read Great Ytene’s excellent Tales of the City piece – now it’s time to see them live. One thing’s for sure, they’ll take you on a journey. Their self-titled debut EP roamed across sweeping guitars, spaced out vocals and fuzzy psychedelia. Live it’s the same intoxicating rush. Fun fact: Their name is taken from an ancient term for the New Forest region on England’s south coast.

Come and join them on their adventure at Hear No Evil on May 24th. You can get your tickets here, they’re only £15 and all money goes to Macmillan Cancer Support.

We caught up with the band before hand to find out what makes them tick:

If I had to describe my music in 3 words…
Shoegazey, pysch-ish noise-pop? So I’ve been told.

My favourite film ever is…
Recently fell in love with Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker, but Jurassic Park will forever hold the top spot in my heart.

The most famous person I’ve met is …
Once met Vincent Gallo and PJ Harvey together, but maybe Olly Murs pips them. I got him to sign a whoopee cushion for me.

The song I hate the most is…
I’m going to flip this and name one of my favourite songs. Diamond Sea by Sonic Youth.

The Worst Job I’ve ever had was…
Working in a flower packing plant.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
Bournemouth’s premier 80’s cover band Wet Look of course. Outside it’s raining, but inside it’s Wet Look.

If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
Maybe time control, like my favourite superhero, Bernard from Bernard’s Watch.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
London Fields Brewery for Hear No Evil Festival…..

I think you should listen to…
Moon Gangs, Winter Drones, Popstrangers and Faux Fur are some.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Sadly I never saw Fugazi live, so probably them. Or Jimi Hendrix or Sun Ra. That’d be a strange gig.

Out of a badger, eagle, bear, fox or rabbit I would be…
Probably a Badger. Was my favourite character from Animals of Farthing Wood.

I’m looking forward to Hear No Evil festival because…
Good bands, good booze, good people, good charity, good times.
