God Damn // In Short

Releasing their debut album Vultures earlier this year Wolverhampton duo God Damn have really emphasised their knack for writing powerful, punch you in the gut tracks. Heavy-hitting, sometimes sprawling, and always memorable they’re bringing their excellent noise on tour with Radkey and they play The Dome on November 5th. We caught up with them ahead of the show:

If I had to describe our music in 3 words, I’d use…
Left, scuzz, rock.

My favourite film ever is…
I’d probably have to say something obvious like Fight Club or Eraserhead, but I’m not going to do that because I’m totally trendy and hip, so I’ll go for the one I’ve probably worn out on VHS the most – Masters Of the Universe. The whole thing was on YouTube last time I checked.

The most famous person I’ve met is…
My mum was vaguely friends with Robbie William’s mum (I’m from Newcastle-Under-Lyme originally) so as a toddler I think she once waved at him at a traffic lights and I was there…tedious. My stepbrother was school mates with the guitarist from The Rakes. But I guess having Dave Grohl invite you for drinks and love out your band kinda pips most things.

The best venue I’ve played so far is…
There’s so many awesome venues we’ve played, Old Trafford with the Foo’s statistically. Aside from that we went for a swim in lake Zurich a few months ago because the venue was right next to it. I cut my foot and got a bit of heatstroke but it was a fond memory.

The song I hate the most is…
I wrote some pretty awful songs in high school, songs about cats and speed cameras and VD, so play one of those and I’ll die of cringe, so it’s not surprising we had a fair amount of major label interest.

The Worst Job I’ve ever had is…
I once worked in a garden centre and on my first day they made me sweep about two miles sq of car park with what felt like a broken toothbrush. That was character building. Talking of character building, my dad used to give me pocket money for serving drinks at his old pub lock-ins, I was 10 and helped myself to as much Red Bull as I wanted, there was pay-per-view porn on in the background too. Serious playground bragging rights.

If I was in a tribute band it would be a….
Very profitable one that probably paid the bills and destroyed my soul every night, I’d develop a drinking problem and deal fake cocaine made from kettle descalent at weddings to off duty police officers.

My Favourite word is….
Bumblebee, it rhymes with everything.

If I had a super power I’d want it to be…
A stare that makes people actually poo in their pants. My mum has proved this power to be very useful.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
We once played a gig (in another band) at Wolverhampton Oceana night club….yeah, that was interesting. It would probably be in Ozzy Osbourne’s front room so that he agrees to take us on tour and pass on that West Midlands torch.

I think you should listen to…
Girl Band, Mothers & Them Wolves (Our sound guys band).

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Robbie Williams, the circle of life.
