Emma Kupa – Home Cinema // Album Review

emma KupaWiaiwya – Out Now

One of the best kept secrets in British songwriting for the past decade or more, Emma Kupa marks her first release in 3 years with a set of folksy solo songs ruminating on family. Dealing with such diverse topics as bereavement and alcoholism, the warm and personal results suggests those three years have been spent honing and developing her artistic skills, from the infectious shuffle of opener ‘Consequences’, to heartbreaking closer ‘Katie NYC’ via the haunting ‘Charlie’ and lilting ‘Punch A Door Through’. Poignant and expertly detailed as it is consistently lovely, and with further releases due from her other projects (Mammoth Penguins, The Hayman Kupa Band), could Home Cinema mark the start of Kupa’s breakout year? Don’t bet against it.
