A monthly feature in which we move out of the live space and into the club, handpicking a handful of parties and releases worth your attention.

Club Nights

Shoom

Friday 8th November, Electric Brixton
Inner City (live) / Danny Rampling / Farley & Heller / ILONA

Shoom was a revolutionary London party that fuelled the acid house movement in the capital. Inspired by the ultimate hedonistic trip to Ibiza, Shoom started in the basement of a fitness centre back in 1987. Founder Danny Rampling brings the brand back to Electric Brixton on Friday 8th November. Detroit legends Inner City, who coincidentally founded the same year that Shoom began, will headline, with support from Shoom regulars Rampling, Farley & Heller, and ILONA aka Ilona Rampling.

Expect the venue to be done up to the nines as Percolate invite the mighty Optimo to headline. Releases

Joy Orbison – Burn (Ft. Infinite & Mansur Brown) (Hinge Finger)

The lead single from Slipping, the latest EP from Joy O, has a killer low end.

Midland – The Alchemy of Circumstance (Graded)

Midland’s new EP is his most experimental to date, and this, the title track, is a zany delight; R2D2 on acid, or, in Midland’s words, R2D2 skittering around IKEA.

Skee Mask – Play Ha (Ilian Tape)

“Unstoppable Fruity Brain Benders” courtesy of one of the most exciting producers doing it right now. Clips above, catch the full EP on Bandcamp here.

Bok Bok – Pure Shores (HXC Mix) (Night Slugs)

Bright synths quiver over crisp breaks in the latest Night Slugs jam.

Blue Terra – 20,000 (Céad)

An otherwordly peak time groover off Or:la’s label.

Mix of the Month

Dekmantel Podcast 251 – Aquarian

This mix is absolutely wild, one of my favourites this year. Don’t do as I did and listen to this on a dreary Monday commute home, the Friday dance will seem all that much further away. Aquarian is a Canadian born, Berlin-based producer and DJ with a penchant for warped rave cuts and mad rhythms inspired by London, Berlin and Detroit. His Dekmantel podcast is everything he does best – a face-melting hybrid of Drexcyian electro, jungle, grime, techno and everything in between.
