A monthly feature in which we move out of the live space and into the club, handpicking a handful of parties and releases worth your attention.

Club Nights

Secretsundaze x Apron

Friday 1st March, FOLD
FunkinEven b2b Secretsundaze / Molinaro / Eliphino / Mr. Redley / DJBB

Giles Smith, James Priestly and Steven Julien join forces for one night only to host a party at FOLD. After many appearances from Julien aka FunkinEven at Secretsundaze parties, it made sense for the two to come together for a serious shakedown at one of London’s most exciting spaces. They will be joined in the booth by NTS affiliate Molinaro, Eliphino, Mr Redley and DJBB.

Dance for Refuge x IWD

Friday 8th March, FOLD
Special Guest / Gwenan / Nite Fleit / Danielle / Liv Ayers

Generally I try to avoid listing the same venue twice in this column, but this month I am making an exception for FOLD, and, more specifically, for International Women’s Day. The Dance for Refuge crew are raising money for Women for Refuge, a charity that specialises in helping women from a refugee background both in the UK and further afield. The Pickle Factory resident Gwenan heads up the bill alongside an unannounced special guest, with support from Australia’s Nite Fleit, Bristol based DJ and illustrator Danielle, and Liv Ayers from Rhythm Sister.

On Loop 3rd Birthday

Saturday 16th March, Bloc.
Moxie b2b Shanti Celeste b2b Peach b2b Saoirse

It’s the first On Loop party of the year, and it’s also the club night’s third birthday, so Moxie and her crew are celebrating with a best friend filled b2b2b2b at Bloc. As tight in their day-to-day as they are in the booth, Saoirse, Shanti Celeste, Moxie and Peach refer to themselves as SASS. They are my ultimate girl gang, and this party will go off.

Bubble Chamber: Errorsmith & Lyzza

Saturday 16th March, The Flying Dutchman
Errorsmith / Lyzza / DJ Instant Regret / 6am Backstop aka T.Wiltshire / DJ Female DJ aka Minou / UK George aka Club Winston / deadmax5 aka Maximum Haze

For a tiny space such as the basement of The Flying Dutchman, Errorsmith are significant both in stature and noise. That said, the Camberwell venue loves wiggy electronic music, and for that this bill is a perfect fit. With an extended licence, extra muscle in the sound system and some strobes installed especially, Errorsmith will be joined by Amsterdam’s Lyzza, plus the Bubble Chamber crew with their usual tongue-in-cheek aliases.

Midland: 5 Fridays at Phonox

Friday 22nd March, Phonox
Midland / Sofay

Our favourite person in our favourite club. After Midland’s month-long residency at Phonox in 2018, both he and the Brixton venue were keen to make it happen again. And so Midland takes the helm every Friday of March, with a carpet for the booth in tow and sporting comfy socks. On Friday 22nd March, the penultimate week, Midland will be joined by Sofay, Glasgow based DJ and member of the Numbers crew. On returning for a second month of Fridays, Midland said: “This time it feels like coming home, but there is still that unknown which makes it so exciting. Also its down the road from my gaff.” Well it’s down the road from my gaff too, so see you guys there.

Friday 29th March, Village Underground
Batu / Deena Abdelwahed – Khonnar Live (Infiné) / Giant Swan (live) / Machine Woman (live) / Simo Cell

It was hard to choose just one of Re-Textured’s many, many parties, but this one at Village Underground is arguably the standout. A new multi-venue festival for London, Re-Textured is marrying experimental electronic music with a selection of London’s brutalist and modernist buildings. Timedance boss Batu headlines the Village Underground offering, with Deena Abdelwahed performing her recent album Khonnar live, and there will be live shows from Bristol’s Giant Swan and Machine Woman too. Simo Cell completes the bill. Check the rest of Re-Textured’s programme HERE.

Sho Madjozi & She’s Drunk – Amadoda (Goro Remix) (Through My Speakers)

A 2018 club stomper gets a crisp makeover courtesy of Goro on Through My Speakers.

Cesco – Drones (1985 Music)

A fiery halftime drum and bass cut from Alix Perez’s label 1985 Music.

Demuja – Space Seduction (Cosmic Connection) (MUJA)

Bright house that might well be why the sun came out this week.

Laurel Halo – Sweetie (!K7)

Laurel Halo has an absolutely killer DJ-Kicks en route, and this is the first taster.

Marie Davidson – Lara (Daniel Avery Remix) (Ninja Tune)

Two of the best come together as Daniel Avery transforms the acid-drenched ‘Lara’ with a thumping low line and some lighter, wistful synths.

FaltyDL – If All The People Took Acid (Blueberry Records)

If All The People Took Acid they would probably listen to this vibrant house jam from FaltyDL.
