Midland: 4 Fridays at Phonox

Friday 9th February 2018, Phonox
Midland / Ruf Dug

My favourite DJ playing in my favourite club, every Friday for a month. What more encouragement do you need? For this, the second of four parties, Midland is joined by leftfield Manchester DJ Ruf Dug. Excelling as a producer just as much as he does in the booth, Midland is undoubtedly one of London’s most treasured artists. Expect anything from wonky techno to Whitney, and expect to love it as he expertly and delicately manoeuvres the mood on the dance floor. All advance tickets have now sold out but there’ll be lots on the door so get down early.

Saturday 10th February 2018, The Yard
Mina ft. Nane (Enchufada) / Suda (Her Records) / Bala Bala Boyz / LIL C / Pattaya / Tash LC

This is the first edition of presenter Tash LC’s new party; Club Yeke. A London based DJ who holds down residencies at both Radar Radio and Worldwide FM, Tash LC’s radio shows traverse everything from breezy afro-jazz to the darker more club-centric sounds of Gqom. Club Yeke will provide a space for her and her favourite selectors to celebrate the sounds making waves on U.K. dancefloors via the African diaspora.

Saturday 10th February 2018, Bloc
Josey Rebelle / Ciel / Nazira / SIREN DJs

“Wear ur best looks. Dress up, dress down, wear nothing at all!” Anything goes at SIREN, a joyous and inclusive party run for and by women, non-binary and queer people. The collective are celebrating their second birthday by inviting expert cratedigger Josey Rebelle down to headline Bloc. Joining Josey are Toronto producer and promoter Ciel and Kazakhstani DJ Nazira, who hosts a monthly show on Radar called New East; both stepping up for their debut London show.

Oscillate Wildly & Janus presents

Friday 16th February 2018, Corsica Studios
Amnesia Scanner / Jam City / Hitmakerchinx / Lotic / DJ Aaron / Pandora’s Jukebox / OXHY / BR-RR

Oscillate Wildly team up with Janus – the Berlin based promoter and label whose resident Lotic will be playing on the night – for their next takeover of Corsica Studios. As a “platform for radical sound”, it’s fitting that Janus’ collab with Oscillate Wildly welcomes the elusive Amnesia Scanner to programme proceedings in room two. Flex Dance Music pioneers DJ Aaron and Hitmakerchinx will also play, alongside Night Slugs mainstay Jam City. Pandora’s Jukebox, BR-RR and OXHY compete the bill.

Roni Size: New Forms Anniversary Live

It’s 20 years since the inimitable Roni Size won the mercury prize with New Forms. In celebration of his ground breaking album he’s off on tour. Support at the London date will come from BBC Radio 1’s DJ Target as well as Rockwell. With the release of his new EP User imminent on Shogun Audio, today Rockwell has dropped a new track with Roni Size himself; listen to “Easy” here.

E1: DJ Stingray

Saturday 24th February 2018, E1 London
Warehouse: Speedy J / Lucy / Volte-Face
Black Studio: DJ Stingray / Lorenzo Senni (live) / Mor Elian / Lux.

Formally known as Studio Spaces, huge Wapping venue E1 London opened with a marathon 27 hour party on New Year’s Eve. Now, as they settle into the swing of things, they invite Detroit’s DJ Stingray – purveyor of strange and dark electro and rarely seen without his trademark balaclava – to headline. Support comes from trance renaissance man Lorenzo Senni, Fever Am head honcho Mor Elian and Berlin DJ Lux.. In the Warehouse, Rotterdam techno veteran Speedy J heads up proceedings and Lucy and Volte-Face also playing.

DJ JM – “Interjail”

Percussion! After earning a solid reputation putting on parties in South London, Even the Strong have nailed it with their first official release as a label. Hard drums are the name of the game for DJ JM’s stellar EP Cosa Nostra, and “Interjail” is the undisputed standout.

DJ Legwarmer – “Waiting For You”

Cute lo-fi house with the most sugary of singalong vocals.

Peggy Gou – “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)”

Peggy Gou turns her hand to singing in her native Korean on the first single from her upcoming EP on Ninja Tune.

Neana – “Cruz Control”

Night Slugs turns ten years old in March and Neana’s Evaser EP is the first of a slew of releases for the label in 2018. “Cruz Control” layers bright textures over thumping drums and a driving bassline and the result is marvellous.

JD. Reid – “Just Know (ft. Henry Wu & Venna)”

JD. Reid celebrates South London’s burgeoning jazz scene on new cut “Just Know”, featuring Rhythm Section’s Henry Wu and saxophonist Venna.

Naocape – “Clouds”

Shimmering footwork from Valencian newcomer Naocape.
