Chelou has gone from strength to strength since releasing his debut EP Quiet in 2014. On latest track ‘Damned Eye Sea’, the London-based musician mixes delicate production with poignant vocals to create a lo-fi electro-acoustic sound sure to whisk you away to a more dreamy state of mind.

The accompanying video was made by London-based animator Jesse Collett using a combination of drawn animation, live action footage and U.V. light and features a ghostly figure travelling through multi-coloured, shape-shifting worlds.

Now heading out on his first UK and European tour, Chelou will be performing at Omeara this Thursday 30th November. We got to know him a little better ahead of the show.

Three words to describe my music…
A review once said ‘melancholy dream folk’ which I’ll take.

Favourite ever film…
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I watched it so much as a kid I can still recite the whole film to this day.

Favourite Instagram account…
Transworldskate

The best venue I’ve played…
The A38 in Budapest was pretty cool. It’s a ship on the Danube and has so much character. That or the Walled Garden stage at Green Man which is my fav festival.

The song I can’t listen to…
I use Instagram to pass time on the train watching skate videos. Unfortunately some of my favourite bands I’ve rinsed so much that its hard to listen to some of their songs. Smells Like Teen Sprit is one of them.

The worst job I’ve ever had…
I spent 2 weeks charity fundraising on the streets of London. Never had so many people avoid or run away from me

My favourite meal to cook…
I’m not the best cook, but make a mean salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
I’ve played in my dad’s tribute band ‘The Rock Beatles’, which was an experience.

My favourite word…
Serendipity

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be…
Flying would be fun.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
On the moon

I think you should listen to…
Bastien Keb. His album ’22.02.85’ is the one.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Past – Jimi Hendrix
Present – Lana Del Ray
