Bully harness a rawness and power within their music, with frontperson Alicia Bognanno offering a self-assured and frank potency at the core of her songwriting. With the upcoming new record SUGAREGG, Bognanno takes this expressive and poignant emotivity further, delivering some of Bully’s most vulnerable and bold work to date, as the first two singles demonstrate. We caught up with Alicia Bognanno to talk cookies, Noname and dreams of playing in Japan.

Following on from ‘Where To Start’, Bully’s latest single ‘Every Tradition’ channels an urgent and resonant ferocity. Doused in fuzzy guitar riffs, the track hurtles along with growling grunge basslines, hazy, playful melodies and Bognanno’s harmonic, direct vocals. It’s this balance of buoyant dynamism and thunderous intensity that Bully do so well; distilling viscerally human expression into their sound.

Speaking on the track, Bognanno expresses, “‘Every Tradition’ is one of the most literal songs on the record, forcing myself throughout the writing process to cut out the bullshit and put down on paper exactly what was going through my mind, silencing the paranoia of the different ways it could be received. Some songs just call for that sort of process and ‘Every Tradition’ was one of them.” The track’s accompanied by a video that Bognanno created remotely with Alan Del Rio Ortiz.
