Cathartic and chaotic, Philadelphia’s Beach Slang are heading on the road again this year, touring their aptly titled 2016 album ‘A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings’. Ahead of their show at Scala at the end of the month, we got to know the band’s James Alex a little better.

If I had to describe my music in 3 words, I’d use…
Drunk, sweaty & honest.

My favourite film ever is…
Fast Times At Ridgemont High.

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Brian Wilson.

The song I hate the most is…
I’m much better with love than hate. And, right now, I really love ‘Caught By The Fuzz’ by Supergrass.

The worst job I’ve ever had is…
Unloading gigantic trucks full of heavy things for small paychecks.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
The Psychedelic Furs.

My favourite word is…
Hello.

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be…
Healing. I like fixing things. I mostly like fixing people.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be….
First Avenue (Minneapolis, MN, USA)

I think you should listen to…
Joe Strummer.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Big Star.

Beach Slang play Scala on 26th January. Tickets available here.
