It’s fair to say Will Wiesenfeld has amassed something of a cult following through his varying musical projects as Geotic and Baths and the podcast he and his brother run. Earlier this month he dropped ‘Mikaela Corridor’, the first track from his upcoming album Pop Music / False B-Sides II. We caught up with him to talk Ursula K Le Guin, improvised soup and playing a boat in France.

An effervescent and transcendent slice of electronica, ‘Mikaela Corridor’ glides along harmoniously with tender melodies, rippling beats and Wiesenfeld’s ethereal, melodious vocals. Encapsulating the enigmatic allure of Baths’ music in it’s varying evocations, ‘Mikaela Corridor’ is accompanied by a suitably off-kilter and charming video directed by Dan Streit. Speaking on the collaboration Wiesenfield expresses “I’ve been a fan of Dan Streit’s work for a while, we were both excited to work together. His storyboard for the video was so well realized. So surreal and funny, 100% the vibe I had hoped for. It was great to take a full step back from directing and attempt to act for the first time.”

With the next track from Pop Music / False B-Sides II dropping next week Baths’ otherwordly yet deeply corporeal creations offer a hugely welcome sonic space to exist within right now. The full release comes this May on Wiesenfeld’s own label Basement’s Basement.

Lee Seung Chul, bodybuilder, not to be confused with the singer of the same name.

The best venue I’ve played…

There was a boat in Lille, France, that my bandmate Morgan and I played on for about 100 people (which was sold out?!) and we were the only band that played. Just like… doors opened, we played 30 mins later for an hour, and then everyone went home! It RULED lol. I’ll never forget it, just wish I could remember the name of it.

Earliest song you remember…

“Albuquerque” by Weird Al. Also I remember every word.

The worst job I’ve ever had…

First and worst— Jamba Juice (a smoothie place).
It truly fucked up my hands from dish chemicals and scooping frozen yogurt. I think their work standards are better now lol, that was like 15 years ago.

The thing I most love to cook is…

Improvised Soup. Eggs, rice noodles, steamed veggies… stuff easy on my stomach.

My Favourite word…

Phantasmagorical or Himbo

My favourite book…

Don’t know but I’ve become a diehard Ursula K Le Guin fan this past year.

Things that cheer me up…

Gay Illustration, Cooperative Video Games

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…

Touring through Scandanavia because I still haven’t been, or touring through South Korea, because I haven’t experienced it enough.

I think you should listen to…

Albums that you don’t have any real reference to compare to. Le Mal by FET.NAT the most recent one for me that I was blown away by.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…

Someone with wild-ass production value that I couldn’t normally afford (That I haven’t already seen)? Maybe Radiohead or The 1975?

‘Mikaela Corridor’ is out now.

‘Pop Music / Fake B-Sides II’ is due March 29th on Basement’s Basement.
