Captured Tracks – 16th June

For a band that writes in part by sending iPhone recordings to each other, it’s remarkable that Brooklyn’s B Boys debut effort gels like they have been holed up in a small room together for months on end. Lead single ‘Energy’ sounds like an itchy cross between Parquet Courts and early Death Grips and its title could serve as a one-word summary of the entire record.

‘Psycho’, ‘Flatlands’ and ‘Discipline’ all bring the ruckus while elsewhere on tracks like ‘Fade’ there is momentary stillness followed by more scathing zeal. “It’s a static age we’re living in but no one gives a shit” goes a line from the song ‘I’; with a debut album as charged up as Dada though, for B-Boys, things might start to change.

Buy: B Boys – Dada
