A singer that lives up to her debut’s name ‘Lioness’, we spoke to Anne-Fay to find out about a few things that do (and don’t) make her tick.

The first offering from Surinamese-African-Chinese-Dutch singer Anne-Fay is a striking Pop track lead by tribal inspired drum beats and soulful Brass before dropping into a heavy trap-style chorus. The combination of soulful, pop and bass-heavy sounds combined with Anne-Fay’s strong, unapologetic vocal makes for a debut that lives up to its name, ‘Lioness’.

As a professionally trained dancer, Anne-Fay began training as a vocalist in 2012 and joined the biggest gospel choir in Holland – ZO! Gospel Choir. In the last 6 years, she has explored her vocal capabilities and has performed alongside the likes of Kasami Washington. Anne-Fay was also the lead singer of electronic bassgroup Cookachoo who release 2 EP’s on PIAS and supported the likes of Major Lazer, as well as playing festivals in the Netherlands (Lowlands & Mysterland).

Now, she stands independently with her debut project – having worked alongside producers Mihai Puscoiu and Reynard ‘Mucky’ Bargmann who has also produced for the likes of the “Godfather of Grime” Wiley.
